Louisiana Pedestrian Killed and Driver Injured in Crash on LA 21
Louisiana – On November 26, 2022, Louisiana State Police stated that on November 25, just after 5:45 p.m., Troopers from LSP Troop L began investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on LA Hwy 21 near Quave Road in Washington Parish. Ben Small, 50, of Covington, Louisiana, died in the crash.
The early inquiry found that Small was dressed in dark-colored attire and walked in the middle of LA Hwy 21. At the same time, a 2012 GMC Acadia was driving south on LA Hwy 21. Small was hit by the GMC for reasons still under investigation.
Small was killed in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the GMC was securely restrained, but suffered minor injuries and was sent to a nearby hospital. Toxicology samples were acquired from Small and the driver of the GMC for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation. This accident is still being investigated.
Pedestrians and motorists alike are reminded to be cautious on the roads and pay close attention to their surroundings. Pedestrian accidents can often be avoided by following some simple safety recommendations. Pedestrians should always wear light-colored or luminous clothes and avoid walking on the roadway in dark places. Pedestrians must also presume that approaching automobiles cannot see them, especially at night. Crossing roads only in well-lit, designated areas and always walking facing traffic will improve pedestrian safety.
