Louisiana Man Previously Charged with Attempted Murder in One Case Now Charged with Murder in Another Shooting Case
Louisiana - On November 1, 2022, Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre revealed that a Lockport, Louisiana man facing attempted murder charges in one incident had been charged with murder in another. Jyairus Folse, 20, of Lockport, Louisiana, has been charged with second-degree murder in the September 24, 2022 shooting that killed 37-year-old Lorenzo Stuart of Lockport. Folse was already in detention after being charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting on September 8, 2022.
At approximately 11:30 p.m. Deputies responded to reports of shots fired in the St. Louis Street neighborhood on September 24, 2022. When they arrived, they discovered a man who had been shot, later identified as Stuart. He was later declared deceased. The incident happened in the 700 block of St. Louis Street. Detectives identified Folse as a suspect and secured an arrest warrant for him after conducting an investigation.
Folse had been detained since September 29th, 2022. He was detained on that date for attempted second-degree murder in connection with an investigation into a shooting that occurred on Ayo Street in Raceland on September 8, 2022. In that event, Jamyren Richard, 23, of Raceland, Louisiana was also charged with attempted murder.
Folse was transported to the Criminal Operations Center in Lockport on November 1, 2022, for questioning about the September 24th shooting. He was taken back to the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex for questioning before being charged on the accusation of second-degree murder. He is also charged with attempted second-degree murder, illegal possession of a stolen firearm, possession of marijuana, taking contraband to a penal institution, and contempt of court, all of which arise from his detention on September 29. He was also charged with simple battery for allegedly punching another inmate on October 15, 2022. He is being kept in jail without bail.
An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
