Louisiana Woman Cited for Deer Hunting Violations After Allegedly Hunting During a Closed Season
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced on October 10, 2022, that on October 4, enforcement agents cited a Louisiana woman for alleged deer hunting infractions in Rapides Parish.
Haifa Burton, 40, of Ball, Louisiana, was cited by agents for hunting deer during a closed season and failing to comply with deer tagging requirements.
Agents got information regarding an eight-point antlered deer that was possibly harvested near the Ball settlement in September. During the inquiry, officers discovered that Burton shot the deer with a crossbow on private land on September 16.
The deer antlers were seized by agents.
Deer hunting during a closed season is punishable by a $900 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail. Failure to comply with deer tagging regulations might result in a $350 punishment. Burton could also face civil compensation of $2,033 for the illegally seized deer’s replacement value.
Sgt. Derek Ware and Senior Agent Ryan Durand are the agents involved in the case.
An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
