Louisiana Driver Succumbs to Injuries Sustained in Crash on LA 27 Near Sulphur

Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana – On October 5, 2022, shortly before 3:15 p.m., Louisiana State Police reported that LSP Troop D responded to a two-vehicle, serious injury crash on LA Hwy 27 at Sam Dunham Road in Calcasieu Parish. Harry T. Methvin, 76, of DeQuincy, Louisiana was killed in the accident.

According to preliminary investigations, a 2000 Toyota Tundra driven by 60-year-old Sulphur, Louisiana resident Bret Wayne Thibodeaux was going south on LA 27. At the same time, Methvin was driving north on LA 27 in a 2014 Jeep Compass. Thibodeaux reportedly lost control of his vehicle as he reached the right-hand curve, crossed the centerline into the northbound lane of travel, and collided with the Jeep.

Methvin, who was properly restrained, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital in the Lake Charles area for treatment. Thibodeaux suffered minor injuries and was sent to a nearby hospital for treatment. The crash is still being investigated.

Troop D was informed on October 6, 2022, that Methvin had died as a result of his injuries incurred in the crash.

So far in 2022, Troop D has investigated 21 fatal crashes that resulted in 23 deaths.
