Two Juveniles Arrested in Calcasieu Parish After Fight at Washington-Marion High School
Lake Charles, Louisiana – The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office reported on September 21, 2022, that on September 20, 2022, at around 1:15 p.m., CPSO deputies were notified of an incident at Washington-Marion High School.
In the initial investigation, it was determined that a fight between two students had occurred at the school. Witnesses reported hearing someone mention a gun during the fight. One of the fight’s participants, along with two other minors, fled the school, and the school was immediately placed on lockdown. The Lake Charles Police Department swiftly apprehended the three fleeing individuals along Rose Street in Lake Charles.
During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that one of the students involved in the fight, who fled the scene, had been suspended from Washington-Marion earlier that day for a previous incident. It was also determined that one of the other minors who escaped the school had previously attended LaGrange High School and was not a student at Washington-Marion. He was present during the fight and had a pair of brass knuckles. The third adolescent who fled the school and was apprehended by police was not involved in the confrontation.
Two youths, ages 15 and 16, were arrested and booked into the Juvenile Detention Center later that evening. The 15-year-old is charged with unlawful disruption of school operation and carrying a dangerous weapon on school property by a student or nonstudent. The 16-year-old has been charged with unlawful disruption of a school’s operation and disturbing the peace by fighting.
The investigation determined that no firearm was present during the high school altercation.
Because of its proximity to Washington-Marion High School, Molo Middle School was placed on a precautionary lockdown.
Detective Larry Cormier of the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office is the case’s principal investigator.
An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
