Louisiana Man Killed in Crash on US 171 After an 18-Wheeler Collided with the Farm Tractor He Was Driving
Sabine Parish, Louisiana – On September 19, 2022, Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a two-vehicle crash on US 171 south of Noble, Louisiana, at around 1:20 p.m. Edwin G. Procell, 68, was killed in the accident.
The initial inquiry found that Procell was driving a Kubota tractor northbound on US Highway 171. Procell moved from the outside travel lane to the inside travel lane for unknown reasons when a 2021 Peterbilt attempted to pass the tractor in the northbound inside travel lane. This action put the tractor directly in the path of the Peterbilt, resulting in a collision.
Procell suffered serious injuries in the incident and was pronounced dead at the site. The restrained Peterbilt driver suffered no injuries. Routine toxicological samples were collected and analyzed. This crash is still being investigated.
Troopers with LSP Troop E have investigated 36 fatal crashes so far in 2022, resulting in 38 fatalities.
