Louisiana Pedestrian Killed in Early Morning Crash While Lying on the Road
Vernon Parish, Louisiana – On September 18, 2022, Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal crash on Holly Grove Road at approximately 2:45 a.m. Cody M. Opry, 21, of Opelousas, Louisiana, was killed in the crash.
According to the preliminary inquiry, Opry was laying in the street when he was struck by a westbound 2016 Nissan Sentra. It is unknown why he was lying on the road at this moment. Opry died at the scene after suffering serious injuries.
Routine toxicological tests are being performed. The crash is still being investigated.
Louisiana State Police said that pedestrians should always wear bright/light-colored clothing and reflective materials to make themselves visible to automobiles. Pedestrians should always walk on sidewalks, but if none are available, they should walk as close to the roadway edge as possible while facing traffic. For increased safety, pedestrians who walk at night should carry a flashlight.
Troop E Troopers has investigated 35 fatal crashes so far in 2022, with 37 people killed.
