Louisiana Man Killed After Bucket Truck Veers Off Roadway and Collides with a Van

Jefferson Davis Parish, Louisiana – Louisiana State Police confirmed on September 17, 2022, that just after 12:00 p.m., LSP Troop D was notified of a three-vehicle fatal crash on LA Hwy 26, about a half mile south of LA Hwy 102 in Jefferson Davis Parish. Larry Andrew Doucett, 75, of Hathaway, Louisiana, was killed in the collision.

The early investigation found that Alfredo Guilamo, 40, of Katy, Texas, was driving a 2005 International DuraStar (Forestry Bucket Truck) south on LA 26. At the same time, the driver of a 2017 Hyundai Accent came to a halt due to traffic in front of him.

Guilamo failed to stop and continued northbound in an attempt to avoid colliding with the Hyundai. The right side fender of a portable wood chipper being transported collided with the rear of the Hyundai as Guilamo veered to the left. Following the initial collision with the Hyundai, the bucket truck continued into the Dollar General driveway and collided with the left side of Doucett’s 1999 Chrysler Town & Country van. Both vehicles slid into a roadside ditch, causing the bucket truck to topple and land on top of the Chrysler.

Despite being restrained appropriately, Doucett suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The front seat passenger in the Chrysler sustained serious injuries and was sent to a nearby hospital for treatment. The Hyundai driver and his passenger were both properly restrained and unharmed. Guilamo was properly restrained and did not sustain any injuries. Toxicology samples were collected and will be analyzed. This crash is still being investigated.

While this collision is still being investigated, inattentive and distracted driving remains a significant cause of fatal crashes in our state. More information about distracted driving is available by following this link.

So far in 2022, Troop D has investigated 18 fatal crashes that resulted in 20 deaths.
