Louisiana Woman Arrested in Connection with Stealing Thousands of Dollars from a University Alumni Association She Worked For
Lake Charles, Louisiana – The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office reported on September 2, 2022, that in May, CPSO detectives received a complaint from the McNeese Alumni Association regarding financial theft.
The association presented detectives with evidence during the initial investigation, including a report prepared by a forensic accounting firm documenting anomalous credit card use. The association informed detectives that former employee Stephanie Y. Clark, 38, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, had made excessive expenditures that looked to be personal in character.
During the inquiry, police discovered Clark had access to a credit card issued by the association as well as a credit card issued to a former employee, both of which she used to make unauthorized purchases. Clark was interviewed by detectives, and according to authorities, she admitted to making around $50,000 in unlawful purchases. Over $200,000 in unlawful transactions were discovered throughout the detective’s probe, including purchases to concerts and retailers such as Poshmark, Apple, Nordic Track, Disney, and many others.
After further investigation, Clark was arrested on September 2, booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center, and charged with theft over $25,000. She was released on a $150,000 bond set by Judge Tony Fazzio.
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Detective John Melton is the lead investigator on this case.
An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
