Disruption of Water Service Scheduled for Numerous Streets in the Area of 6th Avenue in Lake Charles on September 1, Boil Advisory will be Implemented
Lake Charles, Louisiana – The City of Lake Charles announced on August 30, 2022, that on Thursday, September 1, 2022, temporary disruption of water service is scheduled for numerous streets in the area of 6th Avenue where contractors are currently working on an underground utility project. The outage is expected to begin at 9 a.m. and run until 3 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2022. The shut-off is required to allow contractors to finish the tie-ins for newly installed water mains.
Customers on 4th, 5th, and 6th Streets between 5th and 6th Avenues, as well as customers on 6th Avenue between 2nd and 3rd Streets, will be impacted.
Following the restoration of water service, a temporary precautionary boil water advisory will be implemented for customers in the impacted region in accordance with Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) regulations.
The boil water advisory will most likely be in effect for 24 hours. After receiving notification from LDH that water samples collected and submitted for testing have met their water quality and safety requirements, the City of Lake Charles will lift the boil advisory.
It is recommended that impacted users disinfect their water before consuming it, including making ice, brushing teeth, using it for food preparation, or rinsing foods, by boiling the water in a clean container for one minute. The suggested one minute begins when the water reaches a full boil. This precaution does not apply to showering or bathing.
Call 337-491-1487 for further information or questions about individual water services in this impacted area.
