I-10 and US 165 Overpass Construction to Begin September 13, Expected to Continue Until Fall 2024

Louisiana – On August 29, 2022, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD) announced that on Tuesday, September 13th, 2022, construction is expected to begin on a $75.7 million project to remove and replace the I-10 Overpass bridges over US 165 near Iowa, Louisiana

Spanning 5 miles of interstate in both directions, this project will include a bridge, roadway, concrete barrier, cable barrier, and ancillary construction.

The interstate will be expanded from two to four lanes, with three through lanes and one eastbound and one westbound off-ramp. Along with the replacement of the I-10 overpass bridges, all frontage roads and four existing ramps will be improved.

Work crews can be observed in the region moving equipment and completing work permitted during the preparatory stages of the project prior to the start of construction. Notifications will be distributed to the public when work stages begin and end, informing motorists of any lane closures and/or lane shifts.

This project will require both day and night activity. During the day, there will be no lane restrictions on I-10, but the region will be limited to one lane at night. Throughout the course of the project, motorists should expect intermittent single-lane closures on US 165 in both the northbound and southbound directions.

This project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2024, weather permitting.

Safety Reminder:

Louisiana DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.

Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active work zone.
