Alabama Man Sentenced in Connection with Transporting Destructive Devices He Planted Near a Business in Louisiana
Louisiana. – On August 18, 2022, United States Attorney Brandon B. Brown announced that Furmon Earl Bozeman, 61, was sentenced in a federal court in Louisiana by United States District Judge Robert R. Summerhays to 19 months in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release, for transportation of destructive devices in violation of the National Firearms Act.
According to evidence given in court, Bozeman drove from his home in Gulf Shores, Alabama to Nabors Offshore Corporation (Nabors) in New Iberia, Louisiana on the night of January 10, 2022. Bozeman arrived at Nabors and planted and detonated at least three pipe bombs around the property. The devices were planted near the Nabors signs on Admiral Doyle Drive, at the main entrance to Nabors’ human resource department, and just outside the front door of the Nabors’ main building. He employed pipe bombs with double-based smokeless powder within galvanized steel pipes and endcaps. These three devices fit the category of destructive devices, sometimes known as pipe bombs.
On January 12, 2022, agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) executed a search warrant at Bozeman’s home and discovered additional bomb-making materials, a book titled, “Flash Powder Cookbook”, as well as several rounds of ammunition, firearms, and Hogdon smokeless powder. Bozeman admitted to transporting the devices from Alabama to Louisiana.
The ATF, FBI, Department of Homeland Security, Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police, and Chitimacha Police K9 Unit investigated the case, which was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney John W. Nickel.
