Louisiana Man Cited and Antlers and Deer Meat Seized for Closed Season Deer Hunting

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries confirmed on August 16, 2022, that enforcement agents cited a Zachary, Louisiana man on August 11 for an alleged deer hunting violation in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Darious M. Johnson, 32, of Zachary, Louisiana, was cited by agents for hunting deer during a closed season.

Agents went to Johnson’s house after receiving information that he had recently harvested a deer. Agents discovered deer parts from a recently harvested deer at his home. During interrogation, Johnson admitted to taking a six-point deer on August 5 in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Authorities reportedly seized the antlers and deer meat.

Hunting during a closed season is punishable by a $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail. Johnson may also be ordered to pay civil restitution in the amount of $1,624 for the replacement value of the illegally taken deer.

Lt. Will Roberts and Corporal Josh Cooper are the agents involved in this case.

A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
