Louisiana Man Arrested for Bad Checks and 286 Counts of Possession of Child Pornography with Assistance from State Fire Marshal’s Office and Police

Hammond Louisiana – The Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office (LASFM) reported on August 16, 2022, that following a joint effort of the LASFM, the Clark County District Attorney’s Office in Nevada, and the Hammond Police Department, a Bogalusa, Louisiana man is in custody for allegations of writing thousands of dollars in bad checks, as well as hundreds of child pornography charges.

On August 8, James Mifflin, Jr., 48, of Bogalusa, Louisiana, was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail as a fugitive from Clark County, Nevada. He was then charged with 286 counts of Possession of Child Pornography.

According to authorities, the Clark County District Attorney’s office approached the LASFM in April for assistance in locating Mifflin, who was wanted by their office in a case involving claims that he issued more than $3,500 in bogus checks. The LASFM’s help was focused on a provisional security license provided to Mifflin for his position at a security firm in Hammond, Louisiana.
Louisiana State Fire Marshal deputies worked with the firm and Hammond Police to apprehend Mifflin on the fugitive warrant out of Nevada. Mifflin’s work-issued items, including a cell phone, were returned to the firm for which he had been working after he was detained. Following an investigation of the device, the company called Hammond Police again to report the finding of hundreds of unlawful pictures.

Mifflin was arrested in the pornographic case after a brief investigation.

The Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s office shared that it is proud of its participation in and contribution to this case and wants to emphasize the importance of its licensing process for the life safety and property protection industry, which includes conducting background checks that are accessible nationwide, as an integral part of the case’s successful outcome.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
