Unrestrained Driver Killed and Unrestrained Passenger Seriously Injured in Morning Crash in Louisiana on LA 13

Louisiana – Louisiana State Police reported that on August 16, 2022, soon after 4:30 a.m., LSP Troop I began investigating a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 13 near Ellis Road in Acadia Parish. Latashi Eddy, 40, of Crowley, Louisiana died in the crash.

The preliminary inquiry found that Eddy was driving a 2006 Honda Accord north on LA 13. At the same time, a 2015 Chevrolet truck was driving south on LA 13. Eddy’s Accord crossed the center line into the path of the truck for reasons that are still being investigated. As a result, the automobiles collided head-on in the southbound lane of traffic.

Eddy was not restrained and died as a result of her injuries. The Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced her deceased at the scene. An unrestrained passenger in Eddy’s vehicle was also taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The pickup driver was securely restrained and was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

Both drivers’ impairment is unknown at this time, however, toxicology samples have been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for processing. This crash is still being investigated.

Louisiana State Police would like to urge drivers not to drive when inebriated, fatigued, or distracted, and to always ensure that all occupants are properly restrained. Simple precautions like these can frequently make the difference between life and death.
