Unrestrained Louisiana Woman Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash Involving Sheriff’s Deputy on LA 16
Louisiana – According to Louisiana State Police, Troopers with LSP Troop A responded to a two-vehicle crash on LA 16 southbound, south of LA 64 in Livingston Parish, shortly before 1:00 a.m. on July 15, 2022. Christinia Estave, 33, of Denham Springs, Louisiana, died as a result of the crash.
The initial investigation revealed that a Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy was responding to a call of service in a fully marked 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe, according to Louisiana State Police. The deputy was driving south in the left lane of LA 16 when he collided with the rear end of a 2004 Saturn Ion. The Saturn was completely stopped in the left lane of travel prior to the crash for reasons that are still being investigated. The driver of the Saturn, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, was taken to a nearby hospital, where she died from her injuries.
The deputy was also unrestrained at the time of the accident, and he suffered minor injuries. A toxicology sample was obtained from both drivers and will be analyzed. This crash is still being investigated.
According to the Louisiana State Police, the leading causes of fatal crashes continue to be speeding, impairment, and a lack of seatbelt use. Troopers advise the public to make a plan to avoid driving while impaired. Speeding impairs a driver’s ability to safely steer around curves or objects in the road, increases the distance required to stop a vehicle, and increases the distance a vehicle travels while the driver reacts to a situation.
Troopers want to remind drivers of the importance of making safe decisions behind the wheel. While not all crashes are avoidable, wearing a seatbelt significantly reduces the chances of being killed or seriously injured in one.
