One Louisiana Man Arrested for DWI on the Water, Another Arrested for DWI on the Water and Drug Charges

Louisiana – The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries reported on July 12, 2022, that on July 9, enforcement agents arrested two men in St. Mary Parish for allegedly operating or driving a vessel while intoxicated (DWI).

Albert T. Hebert Jr., 57, of Berwick, Louisiana was arrested on the Atchafalaya River for DWI on the water, marijuana possession, and drug paraphernalia. Agents also arrested Jeanerette, Louisiana resident David McQuiston, 50, on the Atchafalaya River for DWI on the water.

Agents were patrolling the Atchafalaya River when they came across Hebert Jr. operating a vessel. Agents determined Hebert Jr. was intoxicated and arrested him for DWI. Hebert Jr. was also found in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, according to agents. Agents later made contact with McQuiston while he was operating a vessel on the same patrol on the Atchafalaya River. McQuiston was arrested for DWI after agents detected his impairment.

Hebert Jr. and McQuiston were booked into the St. Mary Parish Jail by agents.

The penalties for DWI on the water are the same as for driving a vehicle. Anyone cited for DWI on the water or on the road will lose his or her driver’s license and boating privileges for the time specified by the judge in the case. DWI carries a fine of $300 to $1,000 and a jail sentence of up to six months. Possession of marijuana carries a fine of up to $100. Possession of drug paraphernalia can result in a $300 fine and 15 days in jail.

Lt. Scott Dupre, Corporal Chris Hebert, and Sgt. Jake Darden are the agents involved in the investigation.
