Louisiana Man Cited for Illegal Possession of Two Copperhead Snakes

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries reported on June 28, 2022, that on June 20, enforcement agents cited a St. Martin Parish man for alleged illegal possession of venomous snakes.

Agents cited Caleb M. Hudson, 40, of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, for illegal possession of two venomous and restricted snakes, according to LDWF. Agents received information that Hudson was in possession of the venomous snakes. Agents obtained a search warrant and discovered two copperhead snakes in plastic totes at Hudson’s home.

The two copperheads were seized by agents and donated to the Audubon and Alexandria zoos.

Possession of venomous and restricted snakes is punishable by a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Senior Agent Lucas Hidalgo and Sgt. Ryan Faul are the agents involved in the case.

A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
