Unrestrained Driver Killed in Early Morning 2-Vehicle Crash on I-10
Louisiana – Louisiana State Police reported that LSP Troop I was notified of a two-vehicle fatal crash on U.S. Interstate 10 about 2 miles west of Louisiana Highway 91 on June 3, 2022, shortly after midnight. The crash killed one person, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
According to preliminary investigations, a Ford SUV was traveling west in the left lane of Interstate 10 West, while a 2004 Freightliner was traveling in the right lane. The Ford went off the road to the left for unknown reasons, collided with a guardrail, and began to rotate. The Ford reentered Interstate 10 and collided with the Freightliner.
The unrestrained driver of the Ford was ejected from the vehicle and died as a result of their injuries. The Freightliner driver was restrained and sustained no injuries.
Toxicology samples were taken from both drivers and analyzed. This crash is still being investigated.
Louisiana State Police said that the nationwide Click It or Ticket campaign will run until June 5th. Troopers and other law enforcement officers are working extra hours to enforce vehicle restraint laws, but we can’t be everywhere at once. Drivers are encouraged to make the wise choice and wear a seat belt in all seating positions, day or night. In the event of a crash, it could mean the difference between life and death.
