Charges Pending in Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash on LA 13 in Louisiana
Louisiana – Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 13 near Walter Robinson Lane in Acadia Parish shortly before 4:30 p.m. on May 21, 2022. Karen M. Bollich, 65, of Eunice, Louisiana was killed in the crash.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Jasmine Carrier, 31, of Crowley, Louisiana was driving a 2003 Kia Rio south on LA 13 when she crossed the centerline into the northbound travel lane. At the same time, Bollich was driving north on LA 13 in a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox. In an attempt to steer back into the southbound lane, Carrier overcorrected, causing the Rio to rotate sideways into the path of the Equinox. The front of the Equinox collided with the driver's door of the Rio. Bollich suffered fatal injuries despite being properly restrained and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner's Office.
Carrier's use of restraints is unknown, and she was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Both drivers' impairment is unknown at this time, but toxicology results have been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The crash is still being investigated, and charges are pending.
Louisiana State Troopers would like to remind drivers not to drive while impaired, fatigued, or distracted, and to always ensure that all occupants are properly restrained. Simple precautions like these can frequently mean the difference between life and death.
Troop Since the beginning of 2022, I have investigated 14 fatal crashes that have resulted in 16 deaths.
A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
