Two Louisiana Men Arrested for Allegedly Setting Vehicle on Fire and Filing False Stolen Vehicle Report
Louisiana – The Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office (LASFM) announced on May 16, 2022 that they had arrested a man from St. Martinville, Louisiana and a man from Youngsville, Louisiana for allegedly setting fire to one of their vehicles in February and filing a false stolen vehicle report.
Devonte Kately, 24, was booked in connection with the case on March 18, 2022, on one count of Arson with Intent to Defraud.
Kyran Williams, 25, was booked in connection with the case on May 11, 2022, on one count of Arson with Intent to Defraud.
The Cade Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a truck fire in a field in the 1500 block of Duchamp Road in Broussard, Louisiana, in the early morning hours of February 15, 2022.
Due to the suspicious circumstances, SFM deputies were asked to assist in the investigation of the fire’s origin and cause. The fire was determined to have been intentionally started after an examination of the scene. Deputies later discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen hours before it was discovered on fire.
Kately, the truck’s owner, was identified as a suspect in the case after extensive investigation and was arrested a month after the fire.
Williams was identified as a second suspect in the case as a result of continued, diligent investigative efforts in collaboration with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office. On May 11, Williams was apprehended with the assistance of Louisiana State Police.
The Louisiana State Fire Marshal expressed gratitude to the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in resolving this case.
An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
