Louisiana Man Indicted for Murder After Setting a Woman and Child on Fire

A Louisiana man has been indicted on two charges of first-degree murder after setting a child and his girlfriend on fire.

Louisiana – A Franklin, Louisiana man was indicted by a grand jury in the case of his girlfriend and infant nephew being set on fire, resulting in the child’s instant death and the woman’s death after several days in the hospital. On Friday, November 5, 2021, Derwin Hamilton, 49, was charged with two charges of first-degree murder.
Hamilton was arrested in July on suspicion of setting fire to his live-in girlfriend and his 5-year-old nephew inside their mobile home following an argument. According to the female victim, Hamilton poured a substance on her and the child, who is Hamilton’s great-nephew, and then lit them on fire during the altercation.

Hamilton confessed to the crimes during an interview with deputies. Following his release from the hospital, he was arrested.

There is yet to be a trial date scheduled.
