From Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal – The State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFM) has arrested a Bernice woman for setting a bed on fire while her boyfriend was laying in it.
Julianne Goodson, 31, was booked into the Union Parish Detention Center on February 6 on one count each of Attempted Manslaughter and Aggravated Arson.

Around 5:15 a.m. on February 6, the Bernice Fire Department responded to a house fire located in the 400 block of Busby Road. After an assessment of the scene, including witness statements, SFM deputies determined the fire originated on a mattress. Deputies learned the homeowner had been in an argument with his girlfriend, Goodson, for most of the evening prior to the fire. He recalled Goodson returning at some point and asking her to leave so he could sleep. Before she left, he reported hearing her strike a lighter while sitting on the edge of his bed. Moments later, he smelled smoke and rolled over to find his bed on fire.

In an interview with investigators, Goodson revealed knowledge of elements of the fire and was placed under arrest in connection with the case.
