CalcaShout Notifications for Severe Storms and Other Emergencies

Many people received a notification from CalcaShout today. If you didn’t, it might be something to look into.

CalcaShout is an emergency alert system for Calcasieu Parish that sends out notifications when there is a potential safety hazard or concern in your area including severe weather. Today the system sent the following notifications to subscribers about the beginning of hurricane season.

“This is Calcasieu Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness. Today is the first day of the 2018 Hurricane Season. You are receiving this notification because you are signed up for Calcashout Emergency Alert System. If you are wanting to continue receiving these notifications throughout Hurricane Season press one for Yes or two for No. If you have any questions regarding these alerts, please call our office at 337-721-3800.”

The system can send out alerts to your cell phone and work phone via text message. Messages can also be sent to you via your choice of email, text message, Twitter, Facebook as well as a mobile app for Apple and Android devices. To signup for alerts visit CalcaShout.com to create an account and add your contact and location information into the Mass Notification system.

Calcasieu Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness is using the service Everbridge to provide notifications. If you are on a smartphone or tablet, the link may direct you to install an app from Everbridge to receive alerts. If you’re on a computer, it will bring you to a signup page. Either way, you will receive notifications from the CacaShout program.

CalcaShout also has a feature for people in the area who need special assistance during emergencies. The Special Needs Assistance Program (S.N.A.P.) is a special program that allows emergency responders to located citizens that might need additional assistance during different types of emergency events. By opting in for this program you will inform the Calcasieu Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness that someone in your residence may be bed bound, require assistance with walking or may have limited sight or hearing.
