From the Louisiana Department of Health on May 19, 2020:
Due to the misinterpretation of the word “indefinitely,” the Louisiana Department of Health has changed the wording to “until further notice” in the following update.
“Please note that under the terms of State Health Officer Dr. Jimmy Guidry’s Emergency Order, all commercial body art facilities are closed
indefinitelyuntil further notice. The order may be found here. The governor has explicitly excluded commercial body art firms from the categories of entities that may reopen under Phase One restrictions effective May 15. The governor’s most recent proclamation may be found here. Finally, please note that state closures preempt (supersede) any contradictory notices or declarations issued by local governmental officials or bodies.“
Initially, the Louisiana Department of Health indicated that all commercial body art facilities should be closed through April 30, 2020. This was in line with the recommendation for all other businesses deemed by the government to be non-essential. On May 4, the order for non-essential businesses was extended to May 15. On May 13, it was announced that phase one of reopening Louisiana would start on May 15. At that time the reopening date for commercial body art facilities was extended to June 5, with a press conference on the mater planned for June 1.
With the update made on May 19 commercial body art facilities in Louisiana are closed until further notice.
