Calcasieu Parish Jury Finds Man Guilty of 2nd-Degree Battery and Battery of a Healthcare Professional Producing Injury

From the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office – Curtis Williams, age 29, was found guilty by a Calcasieu Parish jury of second-degree battery and battery of a healthcare professional producing injury, on Thursday, November 15, 2019, in the Fourteenth Judicial District Court, before the Honorable David Ritchie.

On August 14, 2018, Williams admitted himself into St. Patricks hospital located in Lake Charles. The victim, a nurse at the hospital, attempted to start an IV in Williams when Williams became angered and punched her in the face, causing her to lose consciousness. Williams then continued to batter, kick and punch the victim repeatedly. He was placed under arrest for second-degree battery.

“Nurses are on the frontline of our current opioid epidemic. They are there to help and heal. It is important that we let them and the community know that we will be there to protect our healthcare professionals,” said Ross Murray, Assistant District Attorney.

Detectives Roland Jones and Keeba Barber of the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office investigated the case.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Ross Murray and Assistant District Attorney Charles Robinson for the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s office.

Sentencing for Williams is set for January 10, 2020, before the Honorable David Ritchie.
