North Bay Produce Apples Sold in Louisiana Have Been Recalled Due to Potential Listeria Contamination

North Bay Produce, Inc. of Traverse City, Michigan is voluntarily recalling 2,297 cases and 2 bulk bins of fresh apples due to the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Some of the apples being recalled were sold in Louisiana.
Recalled varieties shipped to Louisiana include McIntosh, Jonathan, and Honeycrisp apples. Recalled apples were sold in plastic bags under the brands; Great Lakes, North Bay Produce Pure Michigan. Images of the recalled products are available below. The recalled apples were shipped between October 16th, 2019 and October 21st, 2019 from one North Bay facility. Apples purchased at retail prior to October 16th are not affected by this recall, and no other North Bay Produce products are affected by this recall.
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
At the time this was published the FDA was not aware of any illnesses linked by health officials to this recall.
