71-Year-Old Alabama Man Dies in 3-Vehicle Crash on I-10 in Louisiana
St. Martin Parish, Louisiana – The Louisiana State Police (LSP) reported that on February 3, 2023, shortly after 9:30 p.m., LSP Troop I responded to a three-vehicle crash on I-10 West near mile marker 108 between Breaux Bridge and Lafayette. Bobby Ray Carver, 71, of Hueytown, Alabama, was killed in the crash.
According to the preliminary investigation, a Nissan Frontier became disabled in the westbound travel lane of I-10 near mile marker 108 due to a previous crash. A westbound GMC Yukon collided with the disabled Nissan and came to a stop off the road to the right. The Nissan, which remained on the road after being hit by the GMC, was then hit by Carver’s 2019 Harley-Davidson Road Glide. Carver and his motorcycle came to rest in the center lane of I-10 west after colliding with the Nissan.
The St. Martin Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced Carver dead at the scene, despite the fact that he was wearing a DOT-approved helmet. The Yukon’s driver was properly restrained and was not injured. She provided a breath sample that showed no alcohol in her system and no signs of impairment. A toxicology sample was obtained from Carver for analysis and this crash remains under investigation.
So far in 2023, Troop I has investigated 9 fatal crashes that resulted in 10 deaths.
