67-Year-Old Louisiana Man Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash on LA 23 After Running off the Roadway and Colliding with a Utility Pole

A 67-year-old Louisiana man died in a single-vehicle accident in Port Sulphur, Louisiana after his Chevrolet Suburban left the highway and collided with a utility pole.

Plaquemines Parish – Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop B responded to a single-vehicle accident on LA 23 at Lake Hermitage Drive in Port Sulphur, Louisiana soon before midnight on December 19, 2022. This collision resulted in the death of Richard Hurst, 67, of Marrero, Louisiana.

Hurst was driving a 2020 Chevrolet Suburban southbound on LA 23 near Lake Hermitage Drive when the automobile left the highway, past the right shoulder, and collided with a utility pole, according to the preliminary investigation.

Hurst was restrained appropriately, but still sustained life-threatening injuries, and was pronounced dead at the scene. Hurst is not suspected of impairment; however, standard testing will be conducted. This incident is still under investigation.
