56-Year-Old Louisiana Man Faces Up to Life in Prison and $10 Million Fine After Pleading Guilty in Connection with Multiple Drug Crimes
New Orleans, Louisiana – A 56-year-old man from Louisiana has pleaded guilty in connection with multiple drug crimes and could face up to life in prison and a fine of up to $10 million.
U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced that Sean Martin, age 56, of New Orleans, Louisiana pleaded guilty on May 11, 2023, before United States District Judge Ivan L.R. Lemelle to violating the Federal Controlled Substances Act.
According to court records, Martin acknowledged having over a kilogram of heroin, over 400 grams of fentanyl, and a quantity of cocaine hydrochloride with the intent to distribute, in violation of 21 U.S.C. 841(a)(1), 841(b)(1)(A), and 841(b)(1)(C).
The sentencing date has been set on August 16, 2023. Martin faces a required minimum term of ten years in prison and up to life in prison, a fine of up to ten million dollars, and at least five years of supervised release. A $100 special assessment charge is also required for the count.
The Drug Enforcement Administration and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are both looking into this matter. The prosecution is led by Assistant United States Attorneys David Haller and Michael Trummel of the Violent Crime Unit.
