55-Year-Old Louisiana Bicyclist Killed in Crash on LA 46
St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana – A 55-year-old Louisiana bicyclist died in a crash on LA 46 in Chalmette on December 19 after reportedly turning left in front of a truck.
On December 20, 2022, Louisiana State Police reported that on December 19, 2022, at approximately 2:15 p.m., troop B of the Louisiana State Police responded to a crash involving a bicyclist on LA 46 at Gallo Drive in Chalmette. Michael Charles Scott, 55, of Meraux, Louisiana, perished as a result of this accident.
The preliminary inquiry found that Scott was cycling east on the right shoulder of LA 46 near Gallo Drive. Scott was heading east on LA 46 at the same time as a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado. Scott reportedly turned left into the path of the Chevrolet and was struck for circumstances that are still under investigation.
Scott, who was reportedly not wearing a safety helmet, was transferred to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Scott's impairment is unknown, and toxicological samples will be collected for examination. The driver of the Chevrolet is not suspected of impairment, but a blood sample was taken voluntarily and will be analyzed. The investigation is still in progress.
