53-Year-Old Louisiana Man Pleads Guilty to Possession Heroin with the Intent to Distribute and Now Faces Up to 20 Years and a $1 Million Fine

New Orleans, Louisiana – A 53-year-old man from Louisiana has pleaded guilty to possessing heroin with the intent to distribute and now faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine.

U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of Louisiana  U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced that Gene Jackson, age 53, of New Orleans, Louisiana pleaded guilty on May 11, 2023, before United States District Judge Ivan L.R. Lemelle to violating the federal Controlled Substances Act.

According to court documents, Jackson acknowledged possessing a quantity of heroin with the intent to distribute it, in violation of 21 U.S.C. 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1) (C).

The sentencing date has been set on August 16, 2023. Jackson faces up to 20 years in prison, a $1,000,000 fine, and at least three years of supervised release. A $100 special assessment fee is also imposed on each count of conviction.

The Drug Enforcement Administration and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are both looking into this matter. The prosecution is overseen by Assistant United States Attorneys David Haller and Michael Trummel of the Violent Crime Unit.
