50-Year-Old Louisiana Woman Arrested for Allegedly Embezzling Over $120,000 and Using it to Pay Credit Card Bills

Lafourche Parish, Louisiana – A 50-year-old Louisiana woman has been arrested for allegedly embezzling over $120,000 and using it to pay her credit card bills.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of 50-year-old Christi Cheramie of Cut Off, Louisiana who allegedly embezzled over $120,000 from her employer.

Detectives launched an inquiry into Cheramie in late January 2023 when her employer, a Larose, Louisiana company, reported that more than $120,000 had been taken. During the course of five years, beginning in May 2017, the company found anomalous charges to the business checking account. Following an investigation, officers acquired an arrest warrant for Cheramie.

Cheramie was arrested at her home on Friday, March 10. Under interrogation, she reportedly admitted to using company funds to pay her personal credit card bills.

Cheramie was booked at the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex in Thibodaux, Louisiana, and charged with Felony Theft.
Her bail was set at $100,000.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
