46-Year-Old Louisiana Man Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash on LA 449 After His Vehicle Ran Off the Road and into a Canal
Livingston Parish, Louisiana – A 46-year-old Louisiana man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on LA 449 after his vehicle ran off the road and into a canal.
The Louisiana State Police (LSP) reported that on the morning of January 30, 2023, Troopers with LSP Troop A began investigating a single-vehicle crash on LA 449 south of LA 1024 in Livingston Parish. Corey Bennett, 46, of Walker, Louisiana, was killed in the crash.
Bennett was driving a 2011 BMW Z4 south on LA 449, according to preliminary investigations. Bennett failed to negotiate a right-hand curve, veered off the road to the left, and into a canal for unknown reasons. Bennett’s vehicle struck a tree and became partially submerged as it entered the canal.
Bennett was ejected from his vehicle and died at the scene, despite being properly restrained at the time of the crash. A toxicology sample was obtained from Bennett as part of the ongoing investigation and will be analyzed. This accident is still being investigated.
Troopers urge motorists to always make safe decisions while driving. Never drive while intoxicated, fatigued, or distracted. Always obey traffic laws and make sure that every occupant is properly restrained. Not all accidents are avoidable, but taking simple precautions like the ones listed above can often mean the difference between life and death.
