45-Year-Old Disabled Louisiana Man Killed in Early Morning Mobile Home Fire
Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana – A disabled Louisiana man died in an early morning mobile home fire in the Evergreen region of Louisiana on January 12th.
According to the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office (LASFM), investigators are still investigating a mobile home fire in the Evergreen region that killed a disabled male occupant.
On Thursday, January 12, at about 12:30 a.m., the Goudeau Fire Department responded to a call of a mobile home fire in the 3300 block of Highway 361 in the Evergreen area. When firefighters arrived, they discovered that someone was still inside the structure. Unfortunately, a male victim’s body was located.
While the Avoyelles Parish Coroner’s Office is still working on identifying the victim and determining the cause of death, the victim is thought to be a 45-year-old disabled homeowner.
Following an examination of the area and the collection of witness testimony, LASFM deputies found that the fire started on the same side of the home where the victim was located. Deputies are unable to rule out the likelihood of dangerous smoking behaviors or an electrical problem as a contributing element to the cause of this incident at this time.
Furthermore, while investigators were able to confirm the presence of smoke alarms, it is suspected that the victim’s condition made safe escape difficult.
The Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office recommends that, in addition to having functional smoke alarms, you and your family rehearse a home escape plan. This escape plan should include instinctively knowing two ways out of any room in your home and having a safe meeting location outside of your home where everyone can report and contact 911.
