40-Year-Old Louisiana Man Sentenced to 10 Years For Distribution of Heroin and Fentanyl

New Orleans, Louisiana – A 40-year-old Louisiana man has been sentenced to ten years in federal prison for the distribution of heroin and fentanyl.

On April 14, 2023, U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced that George Bennett, aka “G,” age 40, from the greater New Orleans, Louisiana area, was sentenced on April 13, 2023, by United States District Judge Eldon E. Fallon to one hundred twenty-one months (10 years, 1 month) imprisonment followed by a term of ten 10 years supervised release and a mandatory $300.00 special assessment fee after his conviction at trial for violating the Federal Controlled Substances Act.

After a four-day trial in November 2022, the jury found Bennett guilty of conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute one-hundred (100) grams or more of heroin and a quantity of fentanyl, in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1), 841(b)(1)(B), and 846, distribution of a quantity of heroin and a quantity of fentanyl, and possession with intent to distribute a quantity of heroin and a quantity of fentanyl, both in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(C).

The Federal Bureau of Investigation New Orleans Gang Task Force and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office investigated the case. It was prosecuted by Narcotics Unit Assistant United States Attorneys André Jones, Melissa Bücher, and Christopher D. Usher.
