39-Year-Old Louisiana Man Sentenced to 14+ Years for Trafficking Heroin, Fentanyl, and Cocaine
Baton Rouge, Louisiana - A 39-year-old Louisiana man has been sentenced to more than 14 years for trafficking heroin, fentanyl, and cocaine.
On April 4, 2023, United States Attorney Ronald C. Gathe, Jr. announced that U.S. District Judge Brian A. Jackson sentenced Courtney Clayton, age 39, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to 175 months (14 years, 7 months) in federal prison following his convictions for possession with the intent to distribute heroin, fentanyl, and cocaine. The Court further sentenced Clayton to five years of supervised release following his term of imprisonment.
According to confessions made as part of his guilty plea, East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office narcotics agents executed a traffic check on Clayton's vehicle on January 26, 2021, following a month-long investigation into suspected drugs trafficking by Clayton. In the trunk, agents discovered 1,172.48 grams (2.6 lbs) of heroin, 103.5 grams of fentanyl, 676.5 dosage units of fentanyl, and 16 grams of cocaine. In addition, $12,760 in cash and three cell phones belonging to Clayton were discovered in the glove box.
The Drug Enforcement Administration and the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office investigated this case. Assistant United States Attorney William K. Morris prosecuted the case.
