39-Year-Old Louisiana Felon Sentenced to Federal Prison After Being Convicted of Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon

Baton Rouge, Louisiana – A 39-year-old Louisiana felon was sentenced to federal prison after being convicted of possession of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

United States Attorney Ronald C. Gathe, Jr announced that Travis Odale Henderson, 39, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was sentenced to 82 months (6 years, 10 months) in federal prison by U.S. District Judge John W. deGravelles after being convicted of possession of methamphetamine and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Henderson was also sentenced to three years of supervised release following his prison term, as well as a $5,000 fine and forfeiture of the firearm involved.

According to his guilty plea admissions, East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s deputies responded to a citizen complaint concerning Henderson on October 15, 2021. When deputies approached Henderson and patted him down for officer safety, they found methamphetamine pills and a loaded .38 caliber firearm in his possession.

Henderson had previously been convicted in Franklin Parish of cocaine distribution in 2008, and methamphetamine distribution in 2017.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office investigated this case, with assistance from the Louisiana State Police Crime Laboratory. Assistant US Attorney Lyman E. Thornton III prosecuted this case.
