34-Year-Old California Man Indicted in Federal Court in Louisiana on Drug Charges and Faces up to Life in Prison and a $10 Million Dollar Fine if Convicted
New Orleans, Louisiana – A 34-year-old California man has been indicted in a federal court in Louisiana on drug charges and faces up to life in prison and a $10 million dollar fine if convicted.
U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced that Daniel Stephen Wray, a/k/a “Danny,” a/k/a “Tubs,” a/k/a “El Gordo,” age 34, a resident of Chula Vista, California, was charged on March 24, 2023, in a one-count indictment by a federal grand jury with conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1), 841(b)(1)(A), and 846.
Wray risks a statutory obligatory minimum punishment of ten years and up to life in prison, a fine of up to $10,000,000, at least five years of supervised release following any term of incarceration, and a mandatory special assessment charge of $100 if convicted.
U.S. Attorney Evans reiterated that the indictment is merely a charging document and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
The Drug Enforcement Administration and the Louisiana State Police investigated this case. Assistant United States Attorney J. Benjamin Myers of the Narcotics Unit is in charge of the prosecution.
