Lafourche Parish, Lousiana – A 32-year-old Louisiana man has been charged with manslaughter after a man he allegedly punched died from his injuries.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre reported that a Lockport, Louisiana man has been charged with manslaughter after a man he allegedly punched over the weekend died. Duane Ryan Jr., 32, of Lockport, Louisiana, has been arrested and charged in the killing of Chris Chaisson Sr., 59, of Mathews, Louisiana.

Ryan allegedly hit Chaisson in the head at a truck stop in Raceland on March 18, 2023, following an argument. Chaisson was taken to the hospital after the incident. On March 20, a family member reported the event to LPSO, reporting that Chiasson was on life support. Ryan was recognized as the suspect by investigators and taken into custody on March 20. At the time, he was booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex in Thibodaux, Louisiana and charged with second-degree battery.

Chiasson later died in the hospital. An autopsy on March 23 determined that Chaisson died as a result of blunt force injuries.

Ryan is still being held at the Correctional Complex after being charged with manslaughter. Bond is set at $450,000, and he is also being held for Louisiana Probation and Parole as a parole offender.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
