31-Year-Old Louisiana Man Killed in Vehicle-Pedestrian Crash on LA 23

A 31-year-old Louisiana man was killed in a vehicle-pedestrian crash on LA 23.

Port Sulphur, Louisiana – Louisiana State Police (LSP) stated on February 17, 2023, that on February 16, 2023, just before 9:00 p.m., Troopers from LSP Troop B responded to a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on LA 23, south of Reddick Lane in Port Sulphur, Louisiana. Trevor Powe, 31, of Terrytown, Louisiana, died as a result of this crash.

The initial investigation found that a 2005 Cadillac Escalade was going south in the right lane of Louisiana 23 in Port Sulphur. Powe was standing in the right lane of LA 23 when he was hit by the Cadillac for unknown reasons. In the area of the crash, there are no designated crosswalks and lighting is limited. Powe was also dressed in dark attire at the time of the crash.

Powe died as a result of his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Cadillac was restrained and unharmed at the time of the incident.

Impairment is not suspected on the part of the driver of the Cadillac and is unknown for Powe, toxicology tests are pending. The investigation is still ongoing.

Pedestrians and motorists alike are reminded to be cautious and aware of their surroundings while traveling on area roads. Pedestrian collisions can often be avoided by following some simple safety standards. Pedestrians should wear light-colored or light clothes and avoid walking on the road in low-light conditions. Pedestrians must also anticipate that approaching automobiles will not be able to see them, particularly at night. Pedestrians will be safer if they cross roads only in well-lit, designated places and always walk facing traffic.
