3 Texas Men Who Are Members of Southern University Human Jukebox Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on I-49 in Louisiana

Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana – Louisiana State Police reported on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, that on December 6, 2022, soon after 7:00 p.m., LSP Troop E responded to a fatal crash on I-49 north of Natchitoches, Louisiana. Tyran Williams, 19, of Dallas, Texas, Dylan Young, 21, of Dallas, Texas, and Broderick Moore, 19, of Cedar Hill, Texas, were killed in the crash.

All three men were members of the Southern University Human Jukebox marching band, which is well-known for its halftime performances.

The initial inquiry found that a 1999 Jeep Laredo had been stuck on I-49's northbound shoulder. The Jeep's passengers were reportedly attempting to fix a flat tire on the vehicle. For unknown reasons, a northbound 1997 Freightliner driven by 62-year-old Clyde Gay of Coushatta, Louisiana drifted onto the northbound shoulder, collided with the left side of the Jeep, and struck all three pedestrians.
Williams, Young, and Moore died as a result of their injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. Gay, who was restrained, was unharmed. Routine toxicological tests are being performed. The crash is still being investigated.

While the reason for this crash is still being investigated, distracted and inattentive driving remains a significant cause of accidents in our state. Louisiana State Police advises all motorists to drive cautiously. A failure in judgment can have fatal repercussions.

Louisiana State Police Troopers with Troop E have investigated 51 fatal crashes so far in 2022, resulting in 55 fatalities.
