29-Year-Old Louisiana Man Sentenced to Three Years on Federal Firearms Charges

New Orleans, Louisiana – On Friday, January 13, 2023, United States District Judge Susie Morgan sentenced Kareem Madison, 29, of New Orleans, Louisiana, on January 10, 2023, to thirty-seven months (3 years, 1 month) in the Bureau of Prisons for a violation of the Federal Gun Control Act, announced U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans.

Madison had previously pled guilty in the 24th Judicial District Court in Jefferson Parish to possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance in violation of La. R.S. 40:26:966(A).

Madison was sentenced to 37 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release by District Judge Morgan. She also ordered him to pay a $100.00 special assessment fee.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that brings all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve together to minimize violent crime and gun violence and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone. The Department launched a violent crime reduction strategy to strengthen PSN on May 26, 2021, based on the following core principles: fostering trust and legitimacy in our communities, supporting community-based organizations that help prevent violence in the first place, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring the results.

US Attorney Evans commended the USPS Inspection Service and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office for their work in investigating this matter. US Attorneys Rachal Cassagne and Dall Kammer are prosecuting the case.
