29-Year-Old Louisiana Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Trafficking Fentanyl and Firearms Charges
New Orleans, Louisiana – A 29-year-old Louisiana man has been sentenced to 10 years for trafficking fentanyl and firearms charges.
U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced that Nicholas Weber, age 29, a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, was sentenced on March 16, 2023, to 120 months imprisonment, 4 years of supervised release, and a $300 mandatory special assessment fee by U.S. District Judge Susie Morgan, after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, possessing firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and possession of firearms by a convicted felon.
According to court filings, on March 29, 2022, the FBI New Orleans and the New Orleans Police Department executed a federal search warrant on Weber and seized 143.5 grams of fentanyl, two fully loaded handguns, and $16,200 in cash.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that brings all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve together to minimize violent crime and gun violence and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone. The Department launched a violent crime reduction strategy to strengthen PSN on May 26, 2021, based on the following core principles: fostering trust and legitimacy in our communities, supporting community-based organizations that help prevent violence in the first place, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring the results.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation, the New Orleans Police Department, and the Louisiana State Police investigated this case as part of the NOPD’s Violent Crime Abatement Investigation Team (“VCAIT”). This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys J. Benjamin Myers of the Narcotics Unit and Alexandra Giavotella of the Public Integrity/Monetary Penalty and Recovery Unit.
