29-Year-Old Louisiana Man Faces Up to 20 Years and $500k in Fines For Possession of a Machine Gun and Felon in Possession of a Firearm
New Orleans, Louisiana – A 29-year-old Louisiana man faces up to 20 years in prison and $500,000 in fines for possession of a machine gun and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
On April 25, 2023, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of Louisiana reported that on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, Shawn Breaux, age 29, resident of Orleans Parish, pled guilty to a two-count indictment for federal weapons violations, announced U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans. Breaux’s sentencing is set for August 16, 2023.
Breaux is charged in Count 1 of the indictment with illegally possessing firearms as a felon, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a) (2). Breaux faces a maximum penalty of ten years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000.00, and up to three years of supervised release if convicted. Breaux is charged in Count 2 of the indictment with having a machine gun in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(o) and 924(a) (2). Breaux faces a maximum penalty of ten years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000.00, and up to three years of supervised release if convicted. Breaux faces a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.00 for each count.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that brings all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve together to minimize violent crime and gun violence and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New Orleans Police Department investigated the case. Assistant US Attorney Inga Petrovich of the Violent Crime Unit is prosecuting the case.
