25-Year-Old Louisiana Man Sentenced to Over 7 Years on Drug and Firearms Charges
New Orleans, Louisiana – A 25-year-old Louisiana man has been sentenced to over seven years on drug and firearms charges.
U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans stated on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, that Keenan Conley, a 25-year-old resident of Orleans Parish, in Louisiana was sentenced to 92 months in prison, 3 years of supervised release, and a $400 special assessment fee on four counts of a five-count indictment on February 9, 2023. In addition, Judge Fallon imposed the federal term consecutively with the defendant’s state sentence in a separate case.
In Count 1 of the indictment, Conley is charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and (b)(1)(D). In Counts 3 and 5, Conley is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(2). Finally, in Count 4, Conley is charged with possession with the intent to distribute heroin, cocaine, and marijuana in violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1), (b)(1)(C), and (b)(1)(D).
Conley was involved in a shooting on January 25, 2021, in Harvey, Louisiana. In the course of their investigation into the incident, detectives searched the suspect’s vehicle and discovered narcotics and a firearm. Conley was arrested on May 17, 2021, after the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office (JPSO) filed an arrest warrant. During his arrest on May 17, 2021, JPSO discovered a firearm in his engine compartment near the battery and narcotics on his person.
This investigation is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve in an effort to minimize violent crime and gun violence and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone. The Department launched a strategy to reduce violent crime and strengthen PSN on May 26, 2021, based on the following core principles: fostering trust and legitimacy in our communities, supporting community-based organizations that help prevent violence from occurring in the first place, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results.
U.S. Attorney Evans lauded the efforts of the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Bureau and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Inga Petrovich of the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s Violent Crime Unit prosecuted the case.
