22-Year-Old Louisiana Man Arrested on Multiple Charges After Leading Authorities on 16-Mile, Multi-Parish Pursuit

Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana – A 22-year-old Louisiana man has been arrested on multiple charges after leading authorities on a 16-mile, multi-parish pursuit.

Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright reported that a north Natchitoches Parish man driving a stolen vehicle was apprehended on Friday evening after reportedly leading Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies on a 16-mile pursuit into Red River Parish.

Deputies attached to the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office (NPSO) Patrol Operations Bureau were patrolling in the town of Campti, Louisiana, on Friday evening, March 10, 2023, at around 10:20 p.m., when they saw a tan 2012 Chevrolet Suburban going on US-71.

Upon running the license plate information through the National Crime Information Center, deputies discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Winn Parish.
The vehicle was stopped on US-71 near Barnum Street by deputies.

Authorities said that deputies recognized the driver as Owen C. Scallion of Goldonna, Louisiana while urging him to depart the vehicle.
Scallion refused to exit the vehicle, reportedly shouting at deputies as he drove away.

Scallion allegedly departed US-71 on a side street, sending deputies on a chase over to Lake Street, then left into US-71, driving north through Campti, Louisiana, Fairview Alpha, Louisiana, and Red River Parish. The pursuit continued on US-71, then turned right onto La. Hwy 507 and continued westbound to La. Highway 784.

The NATCOM 911 Center notified the Red River Parish Sheriff’s Office of the pursuit and requested help.

Deputies from the Red River Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to LA Highway 784 and were able to effectively use a tire deflation device to gradually reduce the air pressure in the suspect vehicle tires.

The pursuit slowed for another two miles on LA Highway 784, which led to a hunting camp road. Scallion got out of the car and rushed into some adjacent woods.

Scallion was ordered to stop by deputies, but he refused. Scallion was pursued by deputies on foot into the woods, where he was apprehended after a brief struggle.
There were no injuries reported in the chase or during the struggle.

Deputies reportedly located and recovered a blue zip-up bag containing a small amount of suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and Scallion’s identification while scouring the wooded area of the foot pursuit.

Authorities indicated that after the chase, an inventory of the stolen vehicle led to the recovery of three firearms including a Huntsman .58 caliber muzzleloader, a Hawthorne .22 caliber rifle, and a Marlin .22 caliber rifle.

Owen C. Scallion, 22, of Goldonna, Louisiana, was booked into the Red River Parish Jail and later released to NPSO Deputies to be transported and booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center on the charges of  Illegal Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Resisting an Officer by Flight, 3-Counts of Illegal Possession of a Firearm by a Person Convicted of a Felony, Resisting an Officer, Reckless Operation of a Vehicle, Possession of CDS II Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, 1-Count of Failure to Appear in the 10th Judicial District Court, No Driver’s License and other traffic offenses.

Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s deputies Cpl. A. Llorence, and Deputy K. Padilla were involved in the arrest and assisted by Red River Parish Sheriff’s Deputies.

The Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office thanked the Red River Parish Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in the capture of this suspect.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
