2 Louisiana Men Sentenced to Prison for Drug Trafficking

Published October 31, 2021

2 men from Louisiana have been sentenced to more than 10 years each in prison for drug trafficking and other charges.

Acting United States Attorney Alexander C. Van Hook announced that two Louisiana men have been sentenced to prison by United States District Judge Elizabeth E. Foote.

Louisiana – For possession with intent to distribute controlled narcotics and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, Keaton Lamar Shaw, 34, of Shreveport, has been sentenced to 151 months in prison (12 years, 7 months) followed by three years of supervised release. Shaw was a passenger in an automobile that was stopped by law enforcement officers for a traffic violation on February 27, 2019. Officers approached the vehicle and noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from within, so they asked the passengers to exit. Shaw emerged from the vehicle with a black bag on his back. Officers discovered a loaded weapon in plain sight between the passenger seat and the center console of the truck. Shaw was arrested due to the fact that he was a known convicted felon who was forbidden from possessing any firearm or ammunition. Shaw’s backpack included 6 grams of powder cocaine, 3,017 pills comprising 639 grams of a methamphetamine combination, 226 grams of marijuana, and a scale, according to police. A search warrant was also performed at Shaw’s home, where 18 grams of marijuana were discovered in the dresser next to his bed.

Shaw is forbidden from possessing a firearm or ammunition because he has two prior felony convictions for attempted possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, in 2008 and 2018.

The DEA, ATF, and Shreveport Police Department investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Cadesby B. Cooper prosecuted the case.

Jamie William Hill, 42, of Mansfield, Louisiana, was sentenced to 121 months in prison (10 years and 1 month) and three years of supervised release for possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute it. The United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) had launched an investigation into methamphetamine trafficking in the Shreveport/Bossier City, Louisiana area. They discovered through their investigation that Hill planned to distribute methamphetamine at a local Shreveport motel on October 25, 2020. Agents set up surveillance at the motel based on this information. Hill was witnessed driving into the motel parking lot, staying for a short time, and then leaving.

Hill was pulled over by Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies for having an altered temporary registration tag. Hill denied having illicit substances in the vehicle and agreed to a search by deputies. Under the gear shift, deputies discovered approximately 263.7 grams of methamphetamine in a clear plastic bag. Hill was arrested and later acknowledged possessing more cocaine in a hotel room nearby. Agents discovered and seized methamphetamine stashed in a freezer and in the air conditioning unit, as well as a 9mm pistol in his luggage, during their search of the room. The DEA Lab examined the methamphetamine and concluded that the total weight of everything confiscated was 263.7 grams.

The DEA, ATF, and Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Earl M. Campbell prosecuted the case.
