16-Year-Old Student Arrested in Louisiana For Allegedly Bringing a Loaded Firearm to School

Caddo Parish, Louisiana – A 16-year-old student has been arrested in Louisiana for allegedly bringing a loaded firearm to school.

Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator said on May 17, 2023, that investigators from the Sheriff’s Office had apprehended a juvenile following an investigation into a student who allegedly took a gun into a local high school.

After being notified by school administration, Sheriff’s School Resource Officer Rufus Porter reportedly found a firearm in a backpack on a 16-year-old student at C.E. Byrd High School on Wednesday morning. The weapon discovered was a loaded Glock 43 with ten 9mm bullets.

The student was taken to the Criminal Investigation Division Office so that the investigation could continue. The investigation discovered that the student had previously been involved in a gun-related incident at another local high school. It has also been established that the pupil is a member of a local gang. The teen was arrested and charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Juvenile and Carrying a Firearm on School Property. He was booked into the Caddo Juvenile Detention Center.

Authorities indicated that the inquiry is still ongoing to establish if there are any other people engaged in this incident.

The Sheriff’s Office stated that it is pleased to dedicate full-time School Resource Officers to multiple Shreveport high schools.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
