Moss Bluff, Louisiana – At around 3:00 p.m. on December 14, the School Resource Officer at Sam Houston High School in Calcasieu Parish was notified by school staff that students had reported a 14-year-old possessing a handgun on campus. The officer then apprehended the student at approximately 3:30 p.m., just a short distance from the school. A subsequent search of the student’s backpack revealed a loaded firearm, although it was determined that the student did not make any threats with the weapon.
The student was arrested, charged with carrying a firearm or dangerous weapon by a student in a firearm-free zone, and booked in the Juvenile Detention Center. The case is being handled by CPSO School Resource Officer Bobby Benjamin and CPSO Detective Clay Planchard, with assistance from the Calcasieu Parish School Board.
An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
